Because we had to be at the Salt Lake Temple at 9:10 am, we got up early and went to McDonalds for breakfast. We love that Egg McMuffin. I left my stuff in the car and took Grandpa's keys to go back out for my cell phone. After breakfast we went back out to the truck and found I had locked the keys in the truck. Yikes! It was 8:45 am. The conversation went like this:

Grandpa: Oh no, we are stuck!
Me: What do you mean stuck? Break the darn window!
Grandpa: I don't want to break the window.
Me: BREAK THE DARN WINDOW!!!

(we are starting to attract attention now)

Grandpa tries to break the window with some tool from the back of the truck and it won't break. I'm jumping up and down like a chicken screaming "Break the window, break the window!" So, Grandpa finds a heavy metal trowl, stands back, winds up like a baseball pitcher and throws the trowl. It was heavier than he thought and it slammed into the side of the truck, doing considerable damage. He was pretty discouraged at that point. Now, I am jumping up and down waving my arms screaming. By darn, I needed my purse with the temple recommend, the camera, and all the stuff in the truck. Grandpa heaved the trowl again and the window exploded all over the back of the truck and the parking lot. We jumped in, raced home, changed cars, and drove 90 mph down the freeway.

Here you can see the window completely gone.

The damage to the truck is going to cost some money. Never mind. We are on our way.

WSU is doing some research and development for a company called Leptron, who makes UAV helicopters. We had a demo on campus today.

Here are the guys from our corporate partner, and the large helicopter now being used by law enforcement. It flies over auto accidents and takes pictures. They use it to find marijuana fields. We are helping develop a small version called the mosquito.

This is John from Leptron and me.

The guy in the white shirt and sunglasses is the Governor of Utah. I'm standing in the background.

My favorite part of the event was my new best friend, Sergeant Brad Horne. I'm thinking this is a good guy to know. He invited me down to the Highway Patrol facility to see how they deploy the helicopters. He wants me to find more money for research and development, and I want to do that. If I get stopped doing 90 mph down I-15, I hope it is Brad who stops me! :)

Today Spencer and I represented Weber State University at the ATK Ribbon Cutting event in Clearfield. There is a new way to make air plane wings using composite fiber technology. It was a great event. There were important folks there so Spencer and I tried really hard to behave ourselves. I made some good contacts and will work those folks hard for WSU. Congressman Rob Bishop was a speaker along with Senator Bob Bennett, so our staff friends were there. But, the big highlight was the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II cockpit Demonstrator.

The instructor said I was a natural. Right. I did this only to impress my sons. I flew out over the west desert, did loops and rolls, and landed safely. It was easier than Mario Kart, which totally eludes me.

At one point the instructor said that I pulled 9.1 Gs. Had I been in an actual aircraft I suspect that I would have passed out. While on the ground I steered with my feet. To accelerate, you push with the left hand. To steer, you guide with the right hand. Frankly, it is all a little confusing.

Take a good look at the teacher, a veteran flight instructor. He looks like he is 12 to me. Did I forget to mention that I am 63 now?

Here is Senator Bob Bennett in the cockpit.

Today was the best birthday ever. I never thought it would be so great to be 63.

The Breakfast Club: Brad, Shule, Spencer, Chris

The day started with the convening of the Breakfast Club (for today it was the Birthday Club). You can see that Brad came even though he was on vacation. You can't see the giant balloon hovering above the table. They brought flowers and presents. It was awesome. My waffle was on a red "You Are Special" place, which you can see and I will use forever. I never had one of those! Yes, we talked about work because this is work, after all. Then, as usual, we mocked all our enemies. I totally love these guys. As you can see, I am the Mommy of the crowd since they are the ages of my children: after all, I am 63!

Later, Kathleen brought me a fabulous book: When Everything Changed: the Amazing Journey of American Women from 1960 to the Present, by Gail Collins. Thank you, Kathleen--you are awesome! We are women of the '60s and if you get paid the same as a man you can thank us. You are welcome. If you are a female flight attendant, you can thank us for not having to light the cigarettes for the big important men. You are welcome. If you have ever taken birth control pills, you can thank us. You are welcome. If you can wear slacks to work you can thank us. You are welcome. If your husband changes diapers and does housework, I probably raised him to do this. So did many of my friends. I digress. Back to my 63rd birthday.

I'm still pondering what gift my husband should buy for me. I am such a techno freak that I have every single thing out there. Rick says they just don't make stuff fast enough for me. I'm on the waiting list for a 4G iPhone. I have 2 desktop computers, a laptop, a netbook, an iTouch, iPod, and an iPad (thanks to you-know-who you are). I have a new Sony camera, and a Nikon D90. I have a Kindle. That's all my stuff. If it has little lights and buttons I am addicted. Now, if you have suggestions about stuff I might be missing out on, please send an email to tell me! Rick is waiting with his hot little American Express card in his hand and I just have to say the word.

Kristin just called with all the little grandchildren who sang Happy Birthday and made my day. I sooooo loved that.

And thanks to everyone on Facebook and email who sent birthday wishes. No one is as lucky as me. Being 63 is spectacular when you are surrounded by a fantastic family and fabulous friends. Love you all lots!!!

Here is the oldest granddaughter, Emily, and her future husband, James Hulse. What a sweet boy she found! We love him so much already. The big day is July 27th. With James, our family will number 20!

Jeff was swinging Reed around by the arms. Reed, the dare devil wanted something more dramatic. So, his father started swinging him around by the feet. You would think this would scare him. No! He just wanted more. He got the dare devil gene. We have found plenty of that to go around.

Here we are for the fireworks show. Nothing illegal this year for a change.

Categories: Announcements [Chris], 76 words

The local scout troop sold a game made of golf balls tied together with a rope. The object is to fling the rope/golf balls to a frame made of pvc pipe. Dennis and Jeff named this "Trailer Ball," suggesting that it looks like something that should be in a trailer park.

It was bound to happen. Think babies in the back yard, flinging golf balls tied together with a rope. Why am I not surprised?
